Olivia's Winning Scholarship Submission

4-22-08
Space Adventure

Why am I interested?

I am interested because, I thought it would be fun, and adventurous. It will be the first time that I travel to a different state without my parents. I will learn more about math, science and engineering. Although I want to be a librarian, to learn about that I would have to get a degree in education and literature research. This experience will help me with school and college by learning through experience, and observations.

How will I benefit?

Although I wasn't thinking about the benefits when I got the brochure, now that I have thought about it more, I never really learned about space exploration. I may be good at math but I can always learn more! Through this experience I will learn about science and engineering. Relating back to my previous comment about being a librarian, I should know about research and many kinds of topics. I am an independent person even though I am eleven, this experience is important to me to do on my own, without my parents. I can't wait to go to Huntsville and experience all the new learning and awesome space adventures along with the sites.

sincerely,
Olivia.L.Jorde

Red Wing boy takes first place in Minn. mullet contest

RED WING, Minn. - A 3-year-old Red Wing boy has won first prize in this year's Minnesota Mullet Contest, and yes, there is such a thing.

Hockey Moms magazine, a Minnesota publication that's distributed at hockey arenas, named Brady Arneson's blond hairdo the best.

Mullets are a family tradition for the Arnesons — Brady's older brother Blake won the same award in 2005. Their father Scott Arneson also had a mullet as a child.

Mullets, which are sometimes called hockey hair, remain popular for some players.

Scott Arneson explains that hockey kids want their hair to hang out the back of their helmets.

Brady's parents say they'll soon cut his mullet to keep their son comfortable in the warm weather.
